Welcome BBQ prep

Published by admin under Announcements

Hi everyone,

The Welcome BBQ will be held next Saturday, so we will be doing the preparation and shopping from Friday afternoon onwards. The prep will be done in S-P, like before National Day, except that there will be twice as much food, so if you’re free this Friday for either shopping or prep, let us know and we’ll keep you updated.

Tentatively, shopping will be done after 3 pm and prep will start sometime around 6-7 pm. We will need more help for the preparation though, so please try to keep the date free.

Thanks!
Jonathan

Welcome BBQ + Mid Autumn Festival Celebrations

Published by admin under Announcements, Events

Hi everyone,

Hope you’ve had a great summer, and welcome (back)! We will be holding our annual barbecue at the Kresge BBQ pits on the 19th of September from about 5.30 pm. Come join us for an evening of food, fun and company.

We will be needing volunteers to help purchase, prepare and grill the food on the day itself, so if you’re interested, please let us know. In addition, if you have a car or Costco membership, let us know if you’re willing to help with purchasing and transporting the food.

If you plan to attend the event, please RSVP at http://mitsss.scripts.mit.edu/~wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

We will post more details as the date approaches, and look forward to seeing you at the event!

Cheers,
Jonathan

Senior Farewell

Published by admin under Announcements, Events

Hi everyone,

The new committee would like to invite everyone to a final gathering for
this school year.  It’d be great to meet up with everyone before people take
off for the summer. Most importantly, this will be your last chance to see
off the graduating seniors, many of whom have put a lot of sweat, blood, and
tears into organizing and participating in so many great events, and who
have made the MITSSS a home away from home.

When: Sat May 16th, 6pm
Where: Sidney-Pacific Seminar Room
What: Final gathering, Senior farewell, catered dinner.

So that we can plan for the right amount of food, reply to let me know if
you’re coming (yqsoh@mit.edu), and if you’re graduating or leaving Boston
this fall, please state that too.

I hope to see many of you there!

On behalf of the new MITSSS committee,
Shirleen

In preparation for our much anticipated Kopitiam event on November 2nd (please help spread the word about it), the organizing committee will be organizing a pre-event cookout to test and sample some of the shortlisted dishes. On the actual day of the event, we will need about 2-3 volunteers to help in preparation and cooking of each dish. At present, we have an assigned chef from the committee to take charge of each dish but still need 1/2 more people to help out per dish. If you are interested in learning how to prepare authentic Singaporean cuisine and wish to volunteer on the day of Kopitiam itself (and possibly a bit on the day before), come down this Sunday to Sidney Pacific to learn from our chefs and enjoy some wonderful food and company at the same time.

Cookout Dishes:

  1. Pepper crab (KongJie)
  2. Laksa (KongJie)

Kopitiam and Paintball

Published by admin under Announcements

Hello,

Just wanted to update everyone with a couple of events coming up. Our much anticipated event Kopitiam will be organized on November 2nd at the Sidney Pacific Graduate Dorm in MIT starting around noon. Please keep the date free and come join your fellow Singaporean friends for an enjoyable afternoon of delicious local cuisine. If you are interested in helping out, our first planning meeting for the event will be on this coming Monday, October 13th at 7pm at the 3rd floor kitchen in Sidney Pacific. Kong-Jie will be making his famous Bakkwa so if that isn’t a reason for you to show up I’m not sure what is http://scripts.mit.edu/~mitsss/recipes/index.php?title=Main_Page#Bakkwa If you are interested in helping out but can’t make it for the meeting or just wish to volunteer on the day itself, please drop me an email.

MITSSS will also be organizing a paintball session the following weekend (October 18th or 19th). We will be going to P&L paintball field http://www.pnlpaintball.com/ which is about an hours drive away from Cambridge. We have managed to obtain discounted entry tickets at $5 (usual is $30) and paintballs should cost another $10-$30 depending on how much we play. Let me know if you are interested and which day you prefer. We only have 18 tickets available so spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. In addition, if you have a car and are willing to drive down, let me know as well.

Have a great Columbus Day Weekend ahead!

cheers,
Kwan Chong

We are planning a recruitment campaign for both undergraduate and postgraduate students who are in the Engineering faculties and wish to seek your assistance in inviting interested students to apply for our research positions.

Our delegation is visiting selected universities in the eastern part of United States of America sometime in November. We are especially keen to attract final year Singaporeans back home to embark on a research career in the science and engineering field. We are also open to recruiting other nationalities if they possess the right experience and qualifications. For full details of the vacancies, please visit: http://www.simtech.a-star.edu.sg/.
