Feel free to edit the Wiki and post any informal events you are intending to organize (i.e. sports, movies, poker nights etc.) Email the MITSSS list to announce your activity. Interested participants can then check the Wiki for details and edit it to indicate their attendance/suggestions. First up is a basketball pick-up game organized by Henry this coming Saturday at 10:30am at the Rockwell Cage.

1. MITCS BBQ: Welcome and Send-Off Party - 26 July 2008
The MIT Club of Singapore cordially invites all members, MIT alumni, graduates of class 2008, incoming students, current MIT students, and their families to our annual social gathering cum incoming students welcome / send-off reception on Saturday, 26 July 2008 from 5pm to 8pm at Hume Park II Condominium poolside. 2. Student Network Forum organized by UKSSC - 19th July 2008
We cordially invite you to attend the Student Network Forum (SNF),“Social Entrepreneurship – Innovative solutions to alleviate social problems”. Do come for this annual event organized by the UK Singapore Students’ Council (UKSSC), supported by the Overseas Singaporean Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office and mainly sponsored by Parkway Group Healthcare Pte Ltd and SMRT.

I hope that everyone is having an enjoyable summer so far and looking forward to the start of an exciting semester ahead. Here’s some updates from the MITSSS Committee:

1. MITSSS Membership and Mailing List:
We are in the midst of updating our membership records and would like to request that all active/incoming members update their information and confirm their membership in MITSSS using the link below. Registered members will be transferred to a new mailing list which will allow us to reach active members who are interested in being notified about MITSSS events as the current list contains a lot of inactive email addresses. Membership remains free and open to all interested in the activities of the club and is not limited to current students or alumni of MIT or Singaporeans. We’d love to keep in touch with you, and it’ll be great if we knew you wanted to hear from us too.

2. National Day 2008 Celebration
MITSSS is planning on organizing a National Day Celebration on August 9, 2008 (Saturday). The event will tentatively be held at the Sidney Pacific Graduate Dorm and run from 7-10pm. Highlights include free local/Asian food and the screening of this year’s parade. More details and confirmation will be sent out closer to the event.

3. Website Revamp:
The MITSSS website has been revamped and relaunched. Visit it for updates about upcoming activities as well as for photographs from past events.

4. Committee Positions
Currently the secretary position is vacant and we are also looking for a webmaster. Let me know if you are interested in either position.

5. Event Suggestions/ General Comments
If you have any ideas or suggestions for events that you would like the MITSSS to organize, please feel free to drop me or any of the other committee members an email. In addition, if you have any comments about the website or the society in general, do get in contact with us as well.
