Kopitiam Pre-Event Cookout

Published by admin under Announcements

Hey everyone,

In preparation for our much anticipated Kopitiam event on November 2nd (please help spread the word about it), the organizing committee will be organizing a pre-event cookout to test and sample some of the shortlisted dishes. On the actual day of the event, we will need about 2-3 volunteers to help in preparation and cooking of each dish. At present, we have an assigned chef from the committee to take charge of each dish but still need 1/2 more people to help out per dish. If you are interested in learning how to prepare authentic Singaporean cuisine and wish to volunteer on the day of Kopitiam itself (and possibly a bit on the day before), come down this Sunday to Sidney Pacific to learn from our chefs and enjoy some wonderful food and company at the same time.

Kopitiam Pre-Event Cookout: Sunday October 19th 5pm - Sidney Pacific 3rd Floor Kitchen

Cookout Dishes:

  1. Pepper crab (KongJie)
  2. Laksa (KongJie)
  3. Bakgua (KongJie)
  4. Chilli crab (Ziliang)
  5. Samba Sotong (Jithin)
  6. Carrot Cake (Jithin)
  7. Kaya Toast (Jithin)
  8. Sambal Kangkong (Kwan Chong)
  9. Chicken Rice (ChunYang)
  10. Nasi Lemak (Faizal, KwangYong)
  11. Almond Jelly (Peiying)
  12. Gorang Pisang (Christian)

Please drop me an email if you are planning on coming for the pre-event cookout.

cheers,
Kwan Chong

Kopitiam and Paintball

Published by admin under Announcements

Hello,

Just wanted to update everyone with a couple of events coming up. Our much anticipated event Kopitiam will be organized on November 2nd at the Sidney Pacific Graduate Dorm in MIT starting around noon. Please keep the date free and come join your fellow Singaporean friends for an enjoyable afternoon of delicious local cuisine. If you are interested in helping out, our first planning meeting for the event will be on this coming Monday, October 13th at 7pm at the 3rd floor kitchen in Sidney Pacific. Kong-Jie will be making his famous Bakkwa so if that isn’t a reason for you to show up I’m not sure what is http://scripts.mit.edu/~mitsss/recipes/index.php?title=Main_Page#Bakkwa If you are interested in helping out but can’t make it for the meeting or just wish to volunteer on the day itself, please drop me an email.

MITSSS will also be organizing a paintball session the following weekend (October 18th or 19th). We will be going to P&L paintball field http://www.pnlpaintball.com/ which is about an hours drive away from Cambridge. We have managed to obtain discounted entry tickets at $5 (usual is $30) and paintballs should cost another $10-$30 depending on how much we play. Let me know if you are interested and which day you prefer. We only have 18 tickets available so spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. In addition, if you have a car and are willing to drive down, let me know as well.

Have a great Columbus Day Weekend ahead!

cheers,
Kwan Chong
